Origin and history

The church of Saint Aubin de Pincé is a Catholic religious building located in the department of Sarthe, Pays de la Loire. Built in the 11th century, it features a unique nave covered with a 15th century walled structure. His choir was rebuilt and enlarged between the 16th and 17th centuries, illustrating major architectural changes throughout the eras.

The nave houses a series of murals dating from the 13th to the 15th century, reflecting medieval religious art. The church, classified as an additional inventory of historical monuments in 2003, also includes a polygonal arrow tower partially covered with slate, as well as a semi hors-oeuvre turret. A priory, founded in an indeterminate period of the Middle Ages, is associated with the building.

The site underwent several changes, notably in the 18th century with the addition of sculptures and a cradle vault in the choir. The bell tower was modified around 1862, while the prioral house, built between the 15th and 16th centuries, retains a staircase and sculptures of this period. These transformations reflect the evolution of the liturgical and architectural needs of the local community.

The church of Saint Aubin, owned by the municipality of Pincé, is a representative example of the Sarthois religious heritage. Its registration in 2003 highlights its historical and artistic value, while providing an overview of the religious practices and construction techniques of the region, from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
