Origin and history

The 23 Rue du Maréchal-Foch building in Saint-Brieuc is a wooden house dating from the first quarter of the 18th century. Its façade has the date of 1701, engraved on a stone, and has a half-timbered structure divided into compartments by wooden pilasters. A central window opens in the middle of this frame, while the ground floor is mounted in stone. The apparent olive beam is decorated with denticles, characteristic of the architecture of this period.

The protection of this monument was formalized by a decree of 3 February 1971, which inscribed the façade on the street and the corresponding roof. This type of construction illustrates the Breton civil architecture of the early eighteenth century, mixing stone and wood, and reflects the local construction techniques of the time.

The location of the building, in the centre of Saint-Brieuc, suggests its integration into the city's historic urban fabric. The accuracy of its location is assessed as "a priori satisfactory", and it is referenced in the Merimée database under the code Insee 22278, confirming its membership in the Côtes-d'Armor department.
