Origin and history

The buildings at 19 and 21 rue Cassette in the 6th arrondissement of Paris date from the 18th century. Their architecture, characteristic of this period, led to their protection as a Historical Monument. The protected elements include the street façades, the corresponding roof panels, as well as a corner niche adorned with a cul-de-lampe, a dais and a statue, showing the care taken to urban ornamentation under the Old Regime.

The inscription under the title of Historical Monuments by decree of 12 November 1963 specifically concerns these architectural details. The niche, located at the corner of Cassette and Honoré-Chevalier streets, illustrates the importance attached to decorative elements in 18th-century Parisian urban planning. These buildings, now owned by a private company, reflect the evolution of the Parisian building, between aristocratic heritage and adaptation to modern needs.

The location indicated in the Mérimée base (19-21 rue Cassette) differs slightly from the approximate address from GPS coordinates (12 bis rue Honoré Chevalier), highlighting the challenges of geographical accuracy for ancient monuments. Their state of conservation and accessibility (visit, rental) are not documented, but their legal protection guarantees the preservation of this emblematic heritage of the Paris des Lumières.
