Origin and history

The building located 10 Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux dates from the 18th century, a period marked by the architectural beautification of the city. It is part of a coherent urban ensemble around this symbolic place, reflecting the influence of the French classic styles of the time. Its facades and roofs, characteristic of Bordeaux architecture, were protected from the beginning of the twentieth century.

The heritage protection of this building spanned a century. A first classification order in 1916 concerned the facade and roofs overlooking the Place de la Bourse. In 1928, the street façade and its roof were included in the additional inventory. More recently, in 2019 and 2020, new orders extended protection to unclassified parts of surrounding buildings, as well as to elements such as the courtyard and fountain of the Hotel de la Douane nearby. These measures underline the historical and aesthetic importance of this set.

The building is now owned by a private company, which limits its accessibility to the public. Its exact location, confirmed by the Merimée bases and GPS coordinates, places it in the heart of Bordeaux des Lumières, between Place de la Bourse and Rue Saint-Rémy. Available sources (Monumentum, internal data) also mention a location accuracy considered "passable" (note 5/10), without further details on its current use (visits, rental, etc.).
