The façade and the roof (Box F 636): inscription by decree of 17 April 1952
Origin and history
The building located 16 Place du Parlement in Bordeaux is part of an architectural complex of the eighteenth century, marked by a homogeneous ordinance. The square, formerly called Place du Marché Royal, forms an irregular quadrilateral. The building features a commercial ground floor, two noble floors, and a third attic treatise, all crowned by a balustrade cornice and an attic. The stone-cut facades are decorated with masks and shells carved on the keys of yours, while all windows have wrought iron balconies. Its construction dates back to 1754.
The façade and roof of the building (cadastre F 636) were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 17 April 1952, thus recognizing their heritage value. The official address registered in the Mérimée base is 16 place of Parliament, 33800 Bordeaux, in the department of Gironde (code Insee 33063), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Available sources, such as Monumentum, confirm its status as a historical monument without specifying any contemporary uses (visit, rental, etc.).
The square of Parliament, designed in a classic style, reflects the Bordeaux urban planning of the eighteenth century, a period of prosperity linked to the maritime trade and the beautification of the city. The buildings of that time, like this one, were often destined for a merchant or aristocratic bourgeoisie, combining residential and commercial functions. The architectural details (balcony, sculptures) highlight the prestige of the owners, while the homogeneity of the whole shows a rigorous urban planning, characteristic of the royal or commercial squares of the period.
