Façades on street and corresponding roofs: inscription by decree of 27 July 1959

Origin and history

The building located at 8 rue de Bourgogne, at the corner of Rue Saint-Dominique in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, dates from the 4th quarter of the 18th century. This building illustrates the Parisian civil architecture of the end of the Ancien Régime, a period marked by a refinement of facades and a standardization of aesthetic codes for private hotels and bourgeois buildings. Its protected elements – the street facades and the corresponding roofs – were inscribed by ministerial decree of 27 July 1959, highlighting their heritage value.

The location of this building, in a neighbourhood then undergoing urban transformation, reflects the expansion of Paris under Louis XVI. At that time, the 7th arrondissement, close to power centres (such as the Invalides), attracted an affluent population and religious institutions, as evidenced by the proximity of Rue Saint-Dominique, named after the Jacobin convent. The inscription under the title of Historic Monuments aims to preserve a witness of this architectural heritage, in a context where Paris rapidly modernises its urban fabric in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum database, indicate a location accuracy considered "passable" (note 5/10), with an administrative address separate from that derived from GPS coordinates (39 rue Saint-Dominique). This disparity could be explained by fragmentation or georeference errors. No information is provided on a specific current use (visit, rental), but its protected status prohibits any major modification of the listed items.
