Origin and history

The Château de Fleury-en-Bière, located in the Seine-et-Marne department in Île-de-France, has its origins in the 12th century, although its current structure is mainly the result of transformations carried out in the 16th and 18th centuries. The site, originally acquired by Como Clausse in 1550, was thoroughly redesigned by the latter, who began the construction of a new castle. This monument then passed to his eldest son, Henri, thus perpetuating his architectural heritage in the family.

In the 18th century, the castle underwent a second major phase of transformation under the impulse of Jérôme d'Argouges, who had the buildings renovated between 1770 and 1782. At the same time, the park was completely redesigned in 1769 by the architect of King Jean-Baptiste Chaussard, marking an evolution towards a more modern landscape style. This work reflects the influence of the artistic trends of the period, combining classicism and innovations in the design of green spaces.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Countess of Béhague undertook a major restoration of the castle, entrusted to architect Rahir between 1910 and 1914. However, the furniture was auctioned in Paris in 1927 and 1928, before the estate was sold to his nephew, Hubert de Ganay. Since then, the castle has remained in this family. Ranked a historic monument by decree of 17 December 1947 and 5 October 1951, it now embodies a preserved architectural heritage, witness to the stylistic and social evolutions of its time.
