Origin and history
The dry stone huts of Theizé, located in the municipality of the same name in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, date from the 2nd half of the 19th century. These rural constructions use the false vaulting technique in corbellation, a method attested from the neolithic but difficult to date precisely. Two cabins stand out: the Voyle cabin, with a cellar, an entrance, a fireplace, a window and a seat, and the Berillon cabin, which is simpler, equipped only with a cellar and an entrance, suggesting an annexation role. An inscription on the coating of the Voyle hut mentions the year 1881, confirming their use at that time.
These buildings, probably linked to pastoral origin, served as temporary shelters. Their architecture reflects adaptation to local needs, combining functionality and simplicity. The more elaborate Voyle cabin evokes a complete dwelling, while the Berillon hut, without openings other than the entrance, seems intended for secondary use. Their preservation demonstrates the importance of traditional know-how in rural areas of the time.
Classified Historic Monuments by order of 23 September 1994, these huts (cadastral park B 915) are protected for their heritage value. Their approximate location, near the Vignes de Chassagne at Theizé (code Insee 69246), highlights their integration into a wine and agricultural landscape. The available sources (Monumentum, Mérimée base) confirm their status as outstanding elements of Lyon's rural heritage.
