Origin and history

Serquigny's Monument to the Dead 1914-1918 is a tribute to the soldiers who fell in the first world conflict. Placed on Max-Carpentier Street, near the church, it was fully protected by a registration order dated 2 May 2023, covering cadastral plot No. 120 (section AH). This monument, owned by the commune, is representative of the local commemorations after the Great War, often placed in central places to mark the collective memory.

The work is attributed to the sculptor Louis-Aimé Lejeune, whose name is one of the masterpieces of the project. Although architectural details are not specified in the sources, its location near a religious building highlights its anchoring in the urban and symbolic landscape of Serquigny. The monuments to the dead of this period, frequent in Normandy, reflect both national mourning and local initiatives to perpetuate the memory of the disappeared.

The location of the monument, confirmed by GPS coordinates and the official address (36ter Rue Max Carpentier), is given an accuracy deemed satisfactory (level 8/10). Its recent designation as Historic Monuments attests to its heritage value, both artistic and historical, for the region of Haute-Normandie (now integrated into Normandy).
