The statue of Diane (statue and its base) and the accompanying benches, as shown in red on the plan annexed to the decree. These elements appear on the cadastral plan, section DN, Jardin des Lices, on a public space not cadastral: inscription by decree of 17 April 2025

Origin and history

The statue of Diane is a monument located in Blois, in the department of Loir-et-Cher, in the region Centre-Val de Loire. It is located precisely in the Lices Garden, a public area of the city. This work, accompanied by its base and benches, was officially recognized as a historical monument by an inscription order dated 17 April 2025.

The protected elements are clearly defined on a plane annexed to this decree, although their cadastral location remains imprecise, the space being uncadastral. At the beginning of the 21st century, public statues such as Diane's often played an aesthetic and memorial role in French cities. In Blois, a town marked by a rich Renaissance and medieval heritage, these monuments contribute to the attractiveness of urban green spaces.

They also reflect the importance attached to the preservation of artistic heritage, even when their exact origin or author is poorly documented. The statue, owned by the municipality, is thus part of a local dynamic of valuing the cultural property accessible to the public.
