Origin and history
The house at n°44 on Rue du Gouët in Saint-Brieuc is a remarkable example of 16th century civil architecture. Its facade, made of ground wood panels, is distinguished by a ground floor and a floor, divided symmetrically. Two central doors, framed by poles, are flanked by two windows, while posts support the floor. Ravens carry the coyal roof, characteristic of the buildings of this period in Brittany.
This monument is part of a coherent set of old houses still visible on Rue du Gouët. Although the accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (level 5/10), its official address is 44 rue du Gouët, in the department of Côtes-d-Armor (22). The house, classified as Historic Monument, illustrates the know-how of the Breton Renaissance carpenters, with decorative elements such as mouldings and wooden assemblies.
