Origin and history

The Hotel de Vurry, located in Dole in the Jura, is an emblematic residence probably dating back to the 16th century, although an origin in the 15th century is not totally excluded. This building illustrates Renaissance civil architecture in this region, marked by a transition between the Middle Ages and modern times. Its classification as Historic Monument in 1993 reflects its heritage value and the desire to preserve this testimony from the past.

In the 18th century, the house underwent interior furnishing, reflecting changes in lifestyles and aesthetic tastes of the era. These changes, although after its initial construction, have helped shape its current appearance. Today, the hotel in Vurry remains a private property, which limits its accessibility to the public, but its protected status guarantees its conservation for future generations.

The location of this residence, at 7 rue de Besançon in Dole, places the monument in a historic urban context. Dole, the former capital of Franche-Comté, was an important political and economic centre, particularly under the influence of the Dukes of Burgundy. Private hotels such as Vurry's often reflected the social prestige of their owners, although their identity was not mentioned in available sources.
