Origin and history

The town hall of Rabastens, located in the Tarn department in Occitanie region, retains a tower of stairs dating partly from the sixteenth century. This vestige, located in the courtyard on the right, is the only surviving element of an old building that once occupied the site of the current buildings, probably built in the early 19th century. The base of the turret, of Renaissance origin, was later enhanced by one floor, a dovecote, and then capped with a dome.

The entrance door of the turret preserved its original moulding as well as coat of arms, testifying to its former owner, not identified in the available sources. These architectural elements, combined with the inscription of the turret as a Historical Monument by decree of 18 June 1927, underline its heritage importance. Today, the site belongs to the municipality of Rabastens, but information on its access (visits, rental) is not specified.

The location of the monument, noted as "passable" (level 5/10) in the Merimée base, corresponds to the approximate address of the 1 Quai des Escoucières. GPS coordinates and Insee data confirm its anchoring in the historical territory of Tarn, formerly part of the Midi-Pyrénées region. No mention is made of any specific current use (fest hall, guest rooms) in the sources consulted.
