Origin and history
The Priory of Notre-Dame de Paray-le-Monial is a religious building dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Located in the city of Paray-le-Monial, in Saône-et-Loire, it embodies the architecture and spirituality of this period. Ranked as historical monuments on October 9, 1959, it reflects the importance of religious establishments in this region.
The priory, with its abbey buildings, was preserved for its heritage interest. Its classification covers all the structures, highlighting their historical and architectural value. Although the sources do not specify its current use, its status as a historical monument makes it a place of interest for understanding the religious past of Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
Paray-le-Monial, a city with a strong religious tradition, also houses the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, strengthening the central role of these buildings in local life. The Priory Our Lady is thus part of a rich cultural and spiritual landscape, where historical monuments play a key role in collective memory.
