Origin and history
The ancient church of Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d This Romanesque monument, marked by a vaulted choir with a cupola on trunks, preserves decorations painted in its apse, showing pictorial campaigns spreading from the 14th to the 17th century. Its architecture thus combines medieval heritage and subsequent additions, reflecting its functional and stylistic evolution over the centuries.
In the 18th century, the parish priest Ranchon rearranged the building, before its decommissioning in 1872. Transformed into a public school in 1880, it houses a western building dedicated to this use. In 1911, the church became a festive hall, sealing its community vocation. The older eastern part contrasts with this school extension, illustrating the successive adaptations of the monument to local needs. Classified as a Historic Monument in 2000 under the name of "Salle des Vieilles Tours", it remains communal property.
The frescoes of the cul-de-four de l'abside, although partially erased, offer an overview of religious artistic practices between the Middle Ages and the modern era. Their presence underlines the cultural importance of the church, first place of worship, then secular space versatile. The accuracy of its location (7 rue des Écoles) and its Insee code (69191) anchor this heritage in the Lyon territory, between medieval memory and contemporary re-employment.
