Origin and history

The Beauregard-l'Évêque log house, located in Auvergne, is a listed historical monument, dating precisely from 1571 as indicated by the carved shield on the lintel of the door. This building, once occupied by traders, still retains its original stall as well as a south façade in intact masonry. The floor, in corbellation, is characterized by a structure in apparent wooden panels, organized in the cross of Saint-André, typical of the civil architecture of the Renaissance in Auvergne. The horn post, a prominent architectural element, is decorated with a carved figure, adding a decorative dimension to the whole.

This house perfectly illustrates the vernacular architecture of the 16th century, marked by a boom in local commerce. Its stone ground floor and wooden floor reflect the hybrid construction techniques of the time, combining durability and aesthetics. The presence of a complete stall suggests intense commercial activity, probably linked to the economic dynamism of Beauregard-l'Évêque, a village located near Clermont-Ferrand, then in full development.

Classified as a Historic Monument since 1985 for its street facades and roof, this house reflects the importance of civilian buildings in the regional heritage. Its inclusion in the additional inventory of Historic Monuments underscores its architectural and historical value, while preserving a rare example of half-timbered house of this period in Auvergne.
