Origin and history

The log house of Maillebois, located 3 square of the Church of Blévy, is an example of preserved vernacular architecture. This type of construction, characterized by a wooden frame filled with torchi or balge, was common in rural France. The building, listed as a Historic Monument by order of November 15, 2021, also includes its bauge fence walls and the soils of the plot, highlighting its heritage importance and historical integrity.

In the Centre-Val de Loire, wooden houses often reflect medieval and post-medieval construction techniques adapted to local resources. These houses were generally used as houses for artisans, peasants or petty bourgeois, and played a central role in community life. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the ways of life, the artisanal know-how and the social organization of times past in this agricultural and forestry region.
