Origin and history
The chapel Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Bussière-Boffy is a Catholic religious building located in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built from the twelfth century, it is distinguished by its location on an ancient Gallo-Roman site rich in sources. Its architecture, marked by a unique nave, reflects influences of the 12th, 13th and 15th centuries, with elements such as a broken arched door and a structure with characteristic patterns of the 13th century.
The chapel preserves traces of its evolution, including a secondary door dated 1695, engraved on the lintel, and a large indoor swimming pool 1.40 meters wide. Its bell tower, formed by an arcade for the bell, is typical of small rural religious buildings. The building was listed as historic monuments on December 22, 1986, recognizing its heritage value.
According to the sources, the chapel was raised to the site of an ancient site, highlighting its local historical importance. Today owned by the municipality of Bussière-Boffy, it is part of the religious and architectural landscape of Limousin, now integrated into the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its state of conservation and its openness to the public are not specified in available sources.
