Origin and history

The museum was founded in 1976 in Beaulon, on the first floor of the festive hall, by a team of local enthusiasts. These volunteers, gathered within the association Les Amis du musée rural de la Sologne bourbonnaise, collected authentic tools and objects, reflecting the way of life of the Solognots before the industrial era. The exhibits – made of wood, metal, earth or wicker – illustrated the craftsmanship and local traditions, transmitted as a cultural heritage. The association's headquarters were located at Beaulon City Hall, and the museum operated thanks to the commitment of its members until 2010.

The closure in 2010 was motivated by the non-compliance of the premises for the reception of the public. Despite this, volunteers continued their efforts to rehouse the collection. In 2016, the municipality of Saligny-sur-Roudon proposed the old post as a new exhibition venue. After inventory, sorting and removal work, the objects were transferred. A new association, Les Amis du Patrimoine Rural de Sologne Bourbonnaise, was created in 2017 to safeguard and enhance this heritage, with the aim of reopening it to the public.

The museum highlights remains of the rural past: agricultural tools, traditional habitat elements, costumes, and even traces of local language. These artifacts offer a concrete testimony of rural life before mechanization, where each object, manufactured and perfected over generations, played an essential role in everyday life. The site, although modestly localized (geographical precision estimated at 5/10), remains a museum-labelled memory site, accessible today in Saligny-sur-Roudon, on the 11th road of the Donjon.
