Origin and history
The Corbinière Manor House is an emblematic 15th century building located in the municipality of Mézières-sous-Lavardin, Sarthe. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, illustrates the civil architecture of this period, with remarkable elements such as its facades, roofs and preserved chimneys.
The manor was partially protected by a decree of 28 December 1984, specifically covering facades, roofs and two fireplaces in the house. These architectural elements demonstrate the importance of this type of construction in the rural and seigneurial heritage of the region.
The location of the mansion, specified by GPS coordinates and an exact address (2 Impasse de la Corbinière), allows it to be located in a well-defined geographical setting. Although the information on its current use (visit, rental, accommodation) is not detailed in the available sources, its status as a Historic Monument makes it a place of notable heritage interest.
In late medieval times, manor houses such as Corbinière were often used as residences for local lords or wealthy families. They played a central role in the social and economic organization of the countryside, sometimes hosting agricultural or craft activities. These constructions also reflected the status and power of their owners, while participating in the structuring of the territory.
The Pays de la Loire, where the manor house is located, was then marked by a rural economy dominated by agriculture, viticulture and livestock. Manor houses, often surrounded by cultivable land, were centres of local resource management and control. Their architecture, combining functionality and symbolism, made them markers of the landscape and local history.
Today, the Corbinière mansion remains a testimony of this past, preserved thanks to its ranking. Its state of conservation and location, considered satisfactory (note of 7/10), make it an accessible and representative heritage of the medieval heritage of the Sarthe.
