Origin and history
The Marcy Mill, located at Molay-Littry in Calvados, is an ancient water mill typical of Norman vernacular heritage. It was bought in 1975 by the municipality of Molay-Littry at the last miller in operation, marking the beginning of its preservation as a witness to local milling history. Its collections, gathered thanks to the association of the friends of the museum, allow to discover the traditional tools and techniques related to the production of flour.
The mill retains its original machinery, consisting of wood and cast iron, operated by a auger wheel fed by a waterfall. It is always in working order and is started at special events, such as the festival of the mill or summer animations. The auxiliary buildings, such as the stables, the pantry, the dairy or the bread oven, complete this immersion in the agricultural and artisanal life of the past.
Ranked as Musée de France, the site offers a dive into traditional milling activity, while highlighting artisanal know-how that is now gone. The accuracy of its location is estimated as fair, and it is managed by the municipality of Molay-Littry, Calvados. His interest lies as much in his architecture as in his ability to transmit a part of Norman rural history.
