Origin and history
The church of Notre-Dame de Villers-Faucon stands in the heart of the village of Villers-Faucon, in the northeast of the Somme department, near Peronne. This place of worship, marked by recent history, embodies the resilience of a community after the destruction of the First World War.
The present building was erected in 1933 according to the plans of architect Louis Faille, replacing an earlier church destroyed during the conflict. This reconstruction is part of the broader restoration of the villages and monuments ravaged by the war in northern France and Belgium.
The church is distinguished by its sober architecture, combining brick and stone for the frames and the base of the facade. It includes a nave to the bottom and a choir, without transept. The bell tower, backed to the left of the facade, combines bellons with its base and bricks in the upper part, crowned with an arrow in slate. This style reflects the techniques and materials typical of inter-war reconstructions.
