Origin and history

The Véron Museum has its origin in the private collection of Mr. Steel, a local scholar who has built up an important collection of historical and archaeological objects. In 1998, part of this collection was given to the Rural District of Veron as the foundation for a future museum. Since then, the institution has regularly enriched its acquisitions and deposits, while specializing in local asset valuation.

Installed in two old farms representative of vernacular architecture in flood zone, the museum illustrates construction techniques adapted to floods (walls buttresses, shelter rooms, elevation of floors). The materials used, such as tuffeau, lime or trelaze, come from the basement and surrounding forests, reflecting local resources.

Since 2016, the ecomuseum has focused its permanent presentations on its archaeological collections, particularly rich for the Roman period, and on the history of the territory. These well-documented ensembles allow us to trace the evolution of the Veron throughout the eras, while stressing the link between built heritage and past human activities.
