Origin and history

The Tour de Rohan de Mirande, located in the municipality of Mirande (Gers, Occitanie region), is a 14th century historical monument. It illustrates a rare architectural type: an urban seigneurial house built entirely of bricks. This choice of materials, unusual for the time, shows an adaptation to local resources and available construction techniques.

Classified as a Historic Monument, the tower was registered by decree on 19 January 1948. This status protects its integrity and underscores its heritage importance. The precise location at 3 rue Sérignac is documented in the Mérimée base, with geographical accuracy considered to be satisfactory (note 7/10).

The monument embodies a pivotal period in Occitan medieval history, where urban lords played a central role in social and economic organization. Housing of this type served both as a residence, as a symbol of power, and sometimes as a defence. Their presence in urban areas reflected the increasing concentration of political and commercial activities in cities in the late Middle Ages.
