Origin and history
The church Saint-Éloi is a Catholic religious building located in the heart of Arbonne-la-Forêt, in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region. Originally built in the 13th century, it underwent major changes in the 15th and 16th centuries, reflecting the architectural changes and liturgical needs of these periods. Its central location, between Rue Grande and Rue de la Mairie, highlights its historic role as a community and spiritual gathering place.
The church has been listed as a property of the commune since 18 March 1926, by ministerial decree. This heritage status protects its architecture, marked by medieval and Renaissance influences, and bears witness to its importance in the local cultural landscape. Available sources, such as Monumentum and Wikipedia, confirm its precise address at 58 Rue de la Mairie, as well as its Insee code (77006) attached to the municipality.
Although the details of its internal architectural features are limited in the sources, the Saint-Eloi church is part of a wider network of Franciscan religious heritage. Its proximity to the forest of Fontainebleau and its inscription in the bases Mérimée and Clochers de France make it a witness to the historical and cultural dynamics of the region, from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
