Origin and history

The church of Sainte-Marguerite de Cerdon, located in the Loiret, has its origins at least from the twelfth century, as evidenced by a vestige of a wall of the nave. The present building was mainly rebuilt between the late 13th and early 14th centuries, marking an architectural transition typical of this period. The transformations continued with the addition of the western gate and the doors of the arms of the transept in the 15th century, reflecting the evolution of late Gothic styles.

The bell tower, erected in 1647, bears the inscription "B. Caufier, E. Gravelet 1647", attesting to its origin and the craftsmen involved. This date marks a phase of modernization of the building, integrating classical elements while maintaining its medieval structure. The church, classified as Historic Monument by decree of 7 October 1931, thus illustrates centuries of local architectural and religious history.

Owned by the commune of Cerdon, the church Sainte-Marguerite embodies the central role of religious buildings in the social and spiritual organization of the villages of the Centre-Val de Loire. Its location, specified by GPS coordinates as being at 16 Bis Place de l'Eglise, makes it a historical and cultural landmark for the region, linked to community life since the Middle Ages.
