Origin and history

The tumulus of Avezac-Prat-Lahitte is a funerary monument located in the Hautes-Pyrénées, in the Occitanie region. Dating from the Bronze Age and Iron Age 1, it bears witness to ancient funeral practices in this geographical area. This site is a typical example of the collective burials of this period, often linked to communities organized around shared rites and beliefs.

The tumulus was classified as Historical Monument by order of 26 January 1970, which underlines its heritage importance. Today it is owned by the municipality of Avezac-Prat-Lahitte. Although the practical information about his visit is limited, his approximate location is indicated as the 5 Chemin de l'Estaque. This type of monument provides an overview of funeral traditions and the social organization of protohistoric populations in the region.

The tumulus, like that of Avezac-Prat-Lahitte, were often places of collective memory, marking the landscape and serving as a landmark for local communities.
