Origin and history
The Huttes Mill is a pivot mill built in 1932 by E. Roos in the town of Dye-Plage (Pas-de-Calais). Considered one of the smallest mills in Flanders, it was originally built in a rural context marked by traditional milling activity. Its modest architecture reflects the local construction techniques of the time, adapted to the needs of small farms.
Transferred to Gravelines after World War II, the mill finally ceased operations in 1966, marking the end of its industrial use. In 1980, it was again moved and restored thanks to the intervention of the Association ARAM Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The restoration was aimed at preserving a threatened technical and cultural heritage, while integrating into the urban landscape of Gravelines.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 13 May 1986, the Huttes Mill is now owned by the municipality and the state. Its inscription bears witness to its heritage value, both for its history and for its representativeness of the Flanders mills. Although its exact location is approximate (estimated at 6/10), it remains a symbol of the artisanal know-how of the early twentieth century in the Hauts-de-France.
