Origin and history

The Plessis mansion, located in Savonnières en Indre-et-Loire, is a building whose two main bodies date back to the 16th century. These buildings were redesigned and linked to the 18th century by a construction adding a ground floor, while the outbuildings were also erected at that time. A 16th century chapel, backed by the East Gable, was completely restored later.

The large manor garden was designed by Joachim Carvalho, known for his work at Villandry Castle. It also housed the writer René Benjamin, who lived there from 1927 until his death in 1948. He wrote famous lines about his attachment to this home, mixing work, nature and serenity. The manor house has been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments since May 22, 1948, protecting its facades and roofs.

The protected elements include facades and roofs, according to the 1948 registration order. The site, marked by architectural transformations and literary history, remains a testament to the aesthetic and cultural evolutions between Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
