Origin and history

The Manor House of Montviant is an emblematic building dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, located in the commune of Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne, in the department of Mayenne (Pays de la Loire region). This monument illustrates the evolution of seigneurial and then bourgeois residences, marking the passage between the Old Regime and the post-revolutionary period. Its architecture reflects the aesthetic codes and functional needs of these two eras, mixing tradition and modernity.

The manor house was partially registered as historic monuments by decree of 24 June 1975, specifically protecting its facades, roofs, as well as remarkable interior rooms: the dining room, the library, the living room on the ground floor, and three bedrooms on the first floor. These elements, with their preserved decor, testify to the refinement of the aristocratic or affluent interiors of the time. Protection also concerns the commons, stressing the importance of the architectural whole.

Located at 1 Monviant, the site is referenced in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 53062, attached to the commune of Château-Gontier. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rental, accommodation), its conservation and heritage recognition make it a local historic landmark. The accuracy of its geographical location is assessed as very satisfactory (note 8/10), facilitating its identification in the Mayen landscape.
