Origin and history
A typical example of medieval fortifications on earth is the 11th century castral motte of Saint Christie d'Armagnac. Its sommital platform remains in good condition, although the path of the lower courtyard, located between the motte and the present village, is difficult to distinguish. This site is separated from Castet, another element of the castral complex, by a deep ditch, highlighting the spatial and historical complexity of the site.
The Castet, associated with the motte, forms a remarkable archaeological complex, mixing castral, ecclesial and village elements. The materials used, such as the raw earth and the wood panel, bear witness to the construction techniques of the time. This site illustrates the social and defensive organization of rural communities in the Middle Ages, where the castral mots served as checkpoints and refuges.
The castral motte was listed as a Historic Monument by order of February 12, 2015, thus recognizing its heritage value. Although the precise location is considered mediocre (note 5/10), the site remains an important testimony of local history. Owned by the municipality, its access and conditions of visit are not specified in the available sources.
