Origin and history

The Sillery estate is a landscaped park located in Epinay-sur-Orge, Essonne, Île-de-France. Created in the 2nd quarter of the 19th century, it was included in the inventory of historical monuments in 2006. The site now houses institutions dedicated to the reception of persons with disabilities, such as a medical-educational institute and a medical-psychological centre, run by the Regional Health Agency.

In 1837, landscaper Louis-Sulpice Varé built the park with basins, a complex hydraulic system, waterfalls, a cave and wooded islands, in a romantic style. This work marks the birth of the domain as we know it. The castle was renovated in 1860, while the years 1861-1867 saw the completion of pipes and aquatic developments, including a fish farming basin in the 1880s.

The estate now belongs to the Franco-British Sillery Foundation, which maintains medical and social activities, including a shelter for adults with disabilities. In April 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the site hosted an ephemeral operational base of the Essonne Mobile First Aid Unit, illustrating its anchoring in contemporary local life.

The official address of the estate is 9002 Rue de Charaintru, 91360 Epinay-sur-Orge, near the A6 motorway. Only the ordered part of the park (cadastre AB 37) has been protected as historical monuments since 4 December 2006, while the rest of the site remains dedicated to social and educational missions.
