Origin and history

The chapel of the Trois-Maries, located in Mignières en Eure-et-Loir, is a religious building dating mainly from the 12th and 15th centuries, with traces of later developments in the 18th century. Classified as a Historical Monument in 1875, it is the only vestige of a convent founded in the Middle Ages. His name evokes a link with the Saints Marie Madeleine, Marie Jacobé and Marie Salomé, celebrated during pilgrimages organized three times a year (22 May, 22 July, 22 October).

The interior houses a remarkable funerary slab, that of Marie de Tremault, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments in 1908. Although prohibited to the public since 2022 because of its condition, the chapel is the subject of a restoration campaign carried out by the Renaissance association of the chapel of the Trois-Maries. This monument illustrates the religious and architectural heritage of the Centre-Val de Loire region, in a rural context marked by a mining history (presence of local iron ore).

Mignières, a rural municipality with 1,163 inhabitants (2023), is part of the Chartres attraction area. Its heritage also includes the Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais church (rebuilt in 1902-1903) and a contemporary village heart labeled architecture remarkable in 2019. The chapel of the Trois-Maries, a communal property, thus symbolizes the superposition of the epochs, between medieval heritage and current local dynamism.
