Origin and history

The dolmen and polisher of Sorel-Moussel is a megalithic monument located in the municipality of Sorel-Moussel, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This type of structure, characteristic of Neolithic, bears witness to the funeral and artisanal practices of ancient populations. Dolmens were generally used as collective burials, while polishers were used to sharpen or shape stone tools.

In the Centre-Val de Loire region, as in other parts of France, the Neolithic communities lived mainly in agriculture, breeding and hunting. Megalithic monuments, such as dolmens, played a central role in the social and spiritual organization of these societies, often marking places of memory or gathering.
