Origin and history

Villa Hefferlin is a modern house located in Ville-d'Avray, Hauts-de-Seine, built between 1931 and 1932 by architect André Lurçat. It replaces an old villa dating from 1830, a wing of which has been integrated into the new construction. Ordered by an American couple, the Hefferlins, it embodies the avant-garde architecture of the early 20th century.

In 1938, the villa became the property of the designer Raphaël Lopez, who transformed it into a "large Spanish room". The architect Jean-Charles Moreux then redraws the interior and exterior spaces, including the courtyard garden, with flooring and geometric fountains. The original furniture, designed by the Thonet brothers and integrated into the masonry, is replaced.

Listed as a historic monument, Villa Hefferlin has its facades and covers protected by an order of 1 August 1974. Its history reflects the architectural and social evolutions of the inter-war period, combining international influences and local transformations.

The plot of 1,500 to 1,600 m2, located at 33 rue de Marnes, houses a three-level building, witness to the modern experiments of Lurçat. The villa also illustrates the dialogue between ancient heritage (the wing of 1830) and contemporary creation, characteristic of this period.

Today, the Hefferlin villa remains a notable example of 1930s architecture in Île-de-France, combining functionality, innovative aesthetics and historical heritage. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments underlines its importance in the Franciscan heritage.
