Origin and history
The Maison de Loire in Jargeau is part of an associative network founded in the 1980s, aimed at raising public awareness of the ligerian ecosystems. These structures, established in several departments traversed by the Loire, were officially created in 1987 as part of the State-Region plan contracts. The house of Jargeau, like those of Montlouis-sur-Loire and Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire, opened that same year, marking the beginning of a collective approach to the protection of river heritage.
In 1996, the Maisons de Loire de la région Centre (including Jargeau) joined forces to strengthen their joint action. This network, approved for environmental protection and popular education, plays a key role in valorizing the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Fédération des Maisons de Loire, founded in 1995, now coordinates their initiatives, from Nevers to Angers, around projects related to the preservation of the landscapes and the biodiversity of the Niger.
The Maison de Loire du Loiret, headquartered in Jargeau, is run by an association law 1901 composed of a board of directors of 19 members and 4 employees. In particular, it administers a sensitive natural area, the Courpain site in Ouvrouer-les-Champs, and carries out environmental education activities. Its organization reflects the local commitment to safeguard the natural and cultural resources of the river.
