Origin and history
The Ofekirque windmill is a truncated windmill built in brick masonry. Its architecture is distinguished by two doors aligned on the ground floor and three small rectangular openings on the upper floors. An adjacent wooden structure, probably used as a conduit for lowering the bags of flour, completes the building. Two wings remain today, although their origin comes from another local mill, the Moulin Gourdin.
According to the visible inscriptions, this mill dates from the late 18th century, but a major repair is attested in 1920, as indicated by the engraved date accompanied by the name Beaubois. This would correspond to a significant restoration of the building. In the 20th century, especially in the 1960s, the mill was still used to produce animal feed. Today, he is disused, but he remains in good condition thanks to regular maintenance.
Filed by order of 14 November 1977, the mill is located on Rue Sauve-en-Temps in Offekerque, in the department of Pas-de-Calais. Its inclusion in the inventory of protected monuments underlines its heritage importance, although its exact location is considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10). The site does not appear to be open to the public for specific visits or services.
