Saint-Cyr and Sainte-Julitte Church (Box E 198): inscription by order of 25 January 1980
Origin and history
The church Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte is a religious building located in the municipality of Seats, in the department of Yonne, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built mainly in the 16th and 18th centuries, it embodies the Christian architecture of these periods, mixing stylistic elements specific to each era. The building was listed as a historic monument in 1980, recognizing its heritage value and local significance.
In the 16th century, Burgundy-Franche-Comté was a region marked by rural and agricultural life, where churches played a central role in community life. These buildings served not only as places of worship, but also as gathering points for the inhabitants, strengthening social and cultural ties. The Church of Seats, like many others, reflects this duality between spirituality and collective life, while at the same time testifying to architectural changes that have occurred over the centuries.
