Three skylights: by order of 20 May 1927

Origin and history

The house of 39 rue de Falaise is an emblematic building located in the new town of Saint-Pierre-en-Auge, more precisely in the town of Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives, delegated town of Calvados. Built in the 18th century, this house is distinguished by its typical architecture of the period, with three remarkable skylights that were inscribed as the Historic Monuments on 20 May 1927. It is located in the immediate vicinity of Saint Peter's Cathedral, just 120 metres south, strengthening its anchor in local heritage.

The 18th century in Normandy, and particularly in the Pays d'Auge, is marked by refined civil architecture, reflecting the prosperity of the bourgeois and local notables. The houses of this period, like that of the street of Falaise, often illustrate a mixture of regional traditions and classical influences. Their preservation, especially through protections such as those of the skylights, bears witness to the importance attached to this heritage in collective memory.

Today, the house on 39 rue de Falaise remains a representative example of the Norman habitat of the 18th century. Although the available sources do not specify its current use (private dwelling, visit, etc.), its partial inscription in the Historic Monuments makes it a key element of the built heritage of Saint-Pierre-en-Auge. The precise location, at the corner of the Falaise impasse, makes it easily located in the historic urban fabric of Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives.
