Origin and history

La Ferme Caussenarde d'Autres à Hures-la-Parade is an emblematic monument of the rural architecture of the region of causses, in Occitanie. This type of farm illustrates the construction techniques and lifestyles adapted to the geographical and climatic constraints of the Lozerian limestone plateaus. The caussenard farms were at the heart of the local economy, combining housing, stables and barns under one roof.

Their spatial organization reflected a community life centred on agriculture and livestock, in an environment marked by the scarcity of water and poor soil. These farms played a vital social and economic role in the causse villages, such as Hures-la-Parade.
