Origin and history

The 2 Tumulus de Lanrivoare are an archaeological site located in the municipality of the same name in Brittany. These funeral structures, characteristic of prehistoric and protohistoric landscapes, bear witness to ancient burial practices. Their precise dating is not mentioned in the available sources, but their presence is part of a thousand-year tradition of megalithic monuments in Armorica.

In the Breton region, tumulus were generally used as collective or individual burials for local communities. Their construction often reflected a hierarchical social organization, where these buildings marked the territory and honoured the deceased. Although little specific information is available on these tumulus, their existence illustrates the cultural and symbolic importance of such monuments in the Breton funerary heritage.
