Road crossing (Case F 360): classification by decree of 20 January 1983
Origin and history
The 3 Crosses de chemin de Parnoy-en-Bassigny constitute a monumental complex located in the commune of Parnoy-en-Bassigny, Haute-Marne. These crosses, erected in the sixteenth century, are representative of religious buildings of this period, often implanted at crossroads or along paths to mark places of devotion or assembly.
Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 20 January 1983, these crosses now belong to the commune. Their location, estimated as "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10), is specified by an approximate address: 22 Rue Neuve, in Parnoy-en-Bassigny. Their presence attests to the importance of religious symbols in the spatial and social organization of rural villages of modern times.
In the 16th century, the Champagne-Ardenne region, now integrated into the Grand Est, was marked by a mainly agricultural and artisanal economy. The cross of paths then played a role both spiritual and practical, serving as a benchmark for travelers, pilgrims or local processions. Their preservation to date reflects their attachment to the cultural and religious heritage of the community.
