Mills classified from France

Love of the rural heritage, of its history,... you will find a complete inventory of the mills classified as historical monuments.

Indispensable to processing wheat into flour, the territory is covered with mills. Depending on the energy sources, they are wind, water or tidal. In the absence of a natural energy source, an animal operated the mill. We then speak of a blood mill.

The mill was the property of the lord who received a ban right, forcing the peasants to grind their grain at the master's mill, and thus to buy that service from him.

We separated the mills into:
  • wind mulins
  • Water mulins
  • Tide moulins
