Menhirs of France

Menhirs are one of the characteristic forms of megalithism in Neolithic. Until recently, menhirs have been associated with the campaniform culture which occupied Europe at the end of Neolithic and early bronze age, between 4500 and 2500 B.C.E. Some recent work on the megaliths in Brittany suggests an older origin, up to 6000 or 7000 years BCE.

We felt it was essential to introduce them to you by region and department.
