Abri adorné et polishoir (Case AH 173): inscription by order of 26 December 1984
Origin and history
The adorned and polished shelter of Baulne, located in the department of Essonne (91) in Île-de-France, is an archaeological vestige dated from Neolithic. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, illustrates the polishing techniques and artistic expressions of the sedentary communities of that time. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 26 December 1984 underlines its heritage importance and its rarity in the region.
The location of the shelter, although documented in the Merimée database under the Insee 91047 code (common Baulne), remains approximate, with an accuracy estimated at 6/10 according to available sources. This type of site, often linked to stone-cutting activities or ritual practices, offers valuable insight into the lifestyles and know-how of neolithic populations in Île-de-France. Polishers, a tool characteristic of this period, were used to sharpen and shape axes or stone grasses.
Available data, mainly from the Monumentum platform and internal archives, do not specify whether the site is accessible to the public or whether it offers services such as guided tours. The adorned shelter and its polisher, identified under the cadastral reference AH 173, nevertheless constitute an essential archaeological marker to understand the ancient human occupation in the southern francilian.
