Origin and history

The farm in the village of Vernay is a typical example of a Beaujolais farm, combining polyculture and viticulture. Its buildings, lined with no central courtyard, include a hangar topped by a room, a stable, a dwelling with an integrated stable, and a fenil above a cellar. This organisation reflects local agricultural practices, where housing and workspaces were closely linked to optimize space and daily travel.

The lintel of the kitchen door bears the date of 1857, marking a construction or renovation phase. However, the archature of this same lintel suggests an origin prior to the 19th century, without further precision. The presence of an upstairs dwelling, served by a gallery and an outdoor staircase, illustrates a recurring architectural solution in the Beaujolais winemaker's home, designed to separate living and working spaces while keeping them functionally connected.

Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 27 July 1994, this farm bears witness to the evolution of the wineries in the Rhône. Its inscription underlines its heritage interest, both for its utilitarian architecture and its role in regional agricultural history. The location in Vernay, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, anchored in the Beaujolais terroir, reinforces its historical and cultural value.
