Origin and history

The covered lane of the Tardivière is a megalithic site located in Ernée, in the department of Mayenne (Land of the Loire). This funerary monument, characteristic of the Neolithic, consists of twenty-one granite orthostats (with the exception of one in dolerite), delimiting a structure of 8 meters long by 2 wide. A single cover table remains today, recalling its original use as a collective burial.

Archaeological excavations revealed the presence of campaniform ceramics in the driveway, suggesting prolonged use until the end of Neolithic. This type of artifact, combined with the later phases of this period, indicates that the site was able to serve as a tomb over centuries, evolving with the cultural and ritual practices of local communities.

Ranked as a historical monument since 8 February 1961, covered street of the Tardivière enjoys heritage protection. Its state of conservation and the remaining architectural elements (orthostats, cover table) make it a valuable testimony of the megalithic constructions of the region, now integrated into the inventories of the Ministry of Culture (Mérimée base).
