Origin and history

The alignment of Coët er Blei, located in the town of Erdeven in Morbihan, is a megalithic vestige dated from the Neolithic. This monument, inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 24 July 2023, consists of an alignment of stones and a slope, as well as surrounding plots (ZM 87, 88, 89 and 91). It illustrates the typical constructions of this period, linked to probably ritual or funeral uses.

The alignment location, although documented in the Merimée database under Insee code 56054, is considered to be of poor accuracy (level 5/10). Owned by the department of Morbihan, the site is subject to protection including the soil of the plots concerned. No information is available on its accessibility to the public or on any tourist facilities.

Neolithic in Brittany is marked by the erection of many megaliths, often associated with collective practices and a social organization structured around agriculture and livestock. These alignments, such as that of Coët er Blei, could have served as territorial landmarks, places of worship or burials, reflecting a society where the sacred and daily were closely intertwined. Their preservation now allows us to study the lifestyles and beliefs of the prehistoric communities of the region.
