Origin and history
The covered driveway of the Kerdic Park, also known as Roche-Gouarandem, is a megalithic monument located in the commune of Saint-Connan, in the department of Côtes-d-Armor. Data of Neolithic, this site bears witness to the funeral and architectural practices of that time. It consists of a 7-metre-long rectangular chamber, bounded by seven orthostats, and a gallery that is now in ruins. A 2.50 metre long cover table is still in place, while a second is overturned. Excavations carried out in 1848 revealed bronze objects, including a nozzle and aileron tip, suggesting a re-use of the site at a later time.
The monument was classified as historic monuments on November 4, 1963, recognizing its heritage value. Its present state, partially ruined, reflects the alterations suffered over the centuries, although its main structure remains identifiable. The presence of dry stone walls and the remains of the access gallery offer clues to its original spatial organization. This site is part of a wider set of megaliths characteristic of Brittany, illustrating the cultural and ritual importance of these constructions for neolithic societies.
Archaeological research, especially in the 19th century, has documented some artifacts associated with the site, although their precise discovery context may remain uncertain. Today, the covered driveway of the Kerdic Park is a notable example of the megalithic heritage of the Côtes d'Armor, attracting the attention of historians and archaeology enthusiasts. Its ranking among historical monuments makes it a protected site, preserving its integrity for future generations.
