The two wings of the monument, the sloping door of the sixteenth century existing in the wall to the right of the entrance passage of the courtyard: classification by decree of 10 February 1909
Origin and history
The ancient bishopric of Troyes, also known as the Episcopal Palace, is an emblematic monument of the city, built between the 16th and 19th centuries. Ranked a historic monument since 1909, it illustrates the religious and civil architecture of these periods, with protected elements such as the wings of the building and a sloping 16th century gate. Its location, in the heart of Troyes, reflects the historical importance of the Church in this region.
Since 1982, the Palace has housed the Museum of Modern Art in Troyes, offering a second life to this heritage. The building, owned by the commune, is listed in the Mérimée base and associated with the Musées de France network. Its precise location, at 3 bis rue du Bon Pasteur, makes it an accessible place integrated into the Troy urban fabric.
Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its dual role: witness to the episcopal history of Troyes and contemporary cultural space. The 1909 ranking and its current status as a museum make it a major site of Champagne heritage, attracting visitors and researchers interested in its architecture and collections.
